Tony Dyshaun Harris, of Everett, was found guilty of murder, carrying a firearm without a license, possession of ammunition without a license, and carrying a loaded firearm without a license on June 6, the Middlesex District Attorney said on Thursday, Aug. 17. A judge found him guilty of being a career armed criminal in July because of his previous conviction for a violent assault.
Harris shot and killed 20-year-old Kevin Raymond just after 3:30 a.m. on Oct. 14, 2017, in a parking lot behind 20 Canal Lane in Somerville, the jury found. Somerville police found Raymond with three bullet wounds, and paramedics rushed him to an area hospital, where he died soon after.
Police also found a gold chain and the revolver used in the slaying in that parking lot. They both had Harris' DNA on them. Surveillance video showed Harris in the area around the time of the murder and wearing that gold chain, the prosecutor said.
“We will not allow this kind of gun violence to go unchecked in Middlesex County," said Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan in a news release. "As Harris’ conviction on all of these charges illustrates, we have an unswerving commitment to prosecuting these cases. We will pursue every avenue to hold those defendants, such as Harris, who repeatedly engage in violence and threaten the safety of others, fully accountable."
Harris will be eligible for parole in 25 years, according to the prosecutor's office.
